Abstract
New START is due to expire in February 2021, and the Trump administration has accelerated its diplomacy on the issue with the approach of the 3 November US presidential election. If Russia and the US cannot reach an agreement on its extension or replacement, there will be no limit – for the first time since the early 1990s – on the number of nuclear weapons the countries can deploy.
