Abstract

This article firstly examines the rapidly growing geostrategic importance of the Indian Ocean Region and traces the genesis of the Indian Ocean Rim Association for Regional Cooperation (IOR-ARC). It then briefly explains its structure and decision-making process, evaluates the role of regionalism and geostrategic importance, highlights India's stakes, explicates factors that can reinvigorate the Association, and ends by drawing together some broad inferences.
