Abstract

The distribution of charged particles in the corotating regions of a pulsar magnetosphere is subject to the formation of gaps, in which the charge density (and particle density) becomes zero. Some detailed properties of such gaps (in the axisymmetric magnetosphere) are analysed, in particular the properties associated with finite plasma temperature and with departures of the magnetosphere from corotation.
