Abstract

The physicochemical properties of Kuznetsk Basin coal are studied. The following distinctive features are confirmed for coal of moderate metamorphic development: minimum strength and gas-dynamic potential; and maximum risk of cracking and explosion, as well as maximum instability of the coal–methane system. For bed samples of different rank, we find that the petrographic characteristics of coal of metamorphic stages III–V include critical regions.
