Abstract

Normally, the properties of evanescent optical waves are obtained by developing the Fresnel equations that are expressed in the complex numbers field when the incident angle exceeds the critical angle. Instead of using complex numbers, here we use real functions and the mathematical concept of linear independence to obtain all the properties of the evanescent waves.
