Abstract

Synchrotron radiation from accelerators and storage rings is being increasingly used in many fields of basic and applied science. Its unique characteristics makes it a new ideal source for many applications, especially in the far UV and X-ray spectral regions. The porperties of synchrotron radiation are described and a discussion is given of presently available and planned sources as well as some likely future developments.
