Abstract

Summary An experimental study comparing the effects of polycrystalline-dia-mond-compact (PDC) -bit design features on the dynamic pressure distribution at the bit/rock interface was conducted on a full-scale drilling rig. Results showed that nozzle location, bit profile, and cutter arrangement are significant factors in PDC-bit performance.
