Abstract

Abstract The effects of thermal stress, electric field, magnetic field with couple stress on the propagation of shear waves in an anisotropic incompressible dissipative plate is studied. The frequency equation for the problem that determines the phase velocity of the shear waves using linear inhomogeneties has been obtained. Several particular cases are also examined. The numerical calculations are carried out for distinct values of anisotropic factor, initial stress parameter, electric field parameter, magnetic field parameter, couple stress parameter as well as wave number and the results are shown graphically using MATLAB. It is observed that the variation in parameters associated with anisotropy of the medium directly affects the propagation of transverse waves in the medium. Also, the velocity of transverse waves can be obviously tuned by the thermal effects, couple stress and electromagnetic field.
