Abstract

The switching dynamics of short pulses in an active nonlinear two-core fiber coupler is investigated theoretically. The analysis takes into account the effects of coupling-coefficient dispersion, gain bandwidth, and gain saturation. In particular, we demonstrate that the pulse breakup effect due to coupling-coefficient dispersion can be suppressed by limiting the bandwidth of the linear gain, whether gain saturation is considered or not.
