Abstract

This paper addresses the question of the effects of non-Newtonian fluid in the propagation mechanism of disturbances in the Rayleigh problem. A power law fluid with a yield stress is considered to illustrate these effects on the shear and velocity distributions, generated by a flat plate moving suddenly from rest with a constant velocity. The existence of a front, moving with a finite velocity, is shown and discussed.
