Abstract

Nonlinear three-wave coupling coefficients are derived by a systematic application of nonlinear high frequency geometric optics to the equations of ideal magnetofluiddynamics. These coefficients concern all the possible interactions between Alfven waves and the two kinds of magnetoacoustic waves: the fast magnetosonic and the slow ones. The propagation of off-resonance waves is also treated and critical times for two specific initial data are found.
