Abstract
Eye health is essential for a good quality of life. In this sense, it is feasible to diagnose possible alterations that can occur from birth and to observe vision failures in children's daily activities, such as during lessons at school. The aim of this research is to report on the experience of nursing students in promoting eye health among children in the public school system in the municipality of Parnaíba-PI. This is a descriptive, exploratory study of the experience report type, with a qualitative approach and referring to a university extension project called "Small Visions". In addition, 379 children between the ages of 6 and 12 were tested and 81 were referred to the ophthalmology service. Thus, the children benefited from the application of the Snellen optometric test and the academics gained a differentiated clinical view of the subject.
