Abstract
The creation of the “Bodoquena-Pantanal Geopark” - GBP, located in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil, was discussed between 2006 and 2010, with subsequent submission of the proposal to the Global Geoparks Network (GGN) currently UNESCO Global Geoparks, with the aim of making it a member of this network. The work carried out indicated a geologically important territory, but it was not enough to form the UNESCO Global Geoparks, receiving rejection in 2011. So, it is intended, by means of a critical analysis of the historical process that resulted in denial of UNESCO Global Geoparks, through the interpretation of documentation of the proposal, considering especially the charter of points recommendations reply to UNESCO Global Geoparks and experience of Arouca Geopark, Portugal. While acknowledging the capability land for a future Geopark, a recommendation among UNESCO Global Geoparks other shares how collect an area of the proposal of the Geopark, stock administrative structure and GBP disclosure and that communities can participate in the Geopark movement. It is hoped that this information will allow an understanding of the historical process of the GBP project and why it was not recognized as a member of the UNESCO Global Geoparks and so contribute to what the process and hum facilities Global Geopark, within the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization criteria, be better understood.
