Abstract

Using the projectile fragmentation of exotic nuclear beams around 1 GeV/nucleon available at the LBL Bevalac, the nuclear structures of light nuclei near the neutron dripline have been studied. We report here on recent progresses concerning (1) the determination of the shape of the density distribution for neutron-rich nuclei with a neutron halo, (2) systematics of the momentum distribution of projectile fragments after a few neutron removal process, and (3) the extraction of electromagnetic dissociation cross sections which are related to the soft E1 mode in neutron-rich nuclei. We also report on (4) the direct observation of the soft giant dipole resonance in 11Li via a pion double charge exchange reaction.
