Abstract
The total charge changing and partial projectile fragment production cross sections of 471 A MeV 56 Fe on C, Al and CH 2 targets are investigated using CR-39 plastic nuclear track detector. It is found that the total charge changing cross sections are consistent with the prediction from Bradt–Peters semi-empirical formula. The partial cross sections for projectile fragment production agree with the results from other experiments and show a significant enhancement for the fragments with even-Z. Finally, the partial cross sections of fragments with charge 5 ≤ Z ≤ 9 are firstly investigated in present paper. ► Total charge changing cross sections are consistent with theoretical predictions. ► The partial cross sections show an enhancement for the fragments with even-Z. ► The partial cross sections of fragments with charge 5 ≤ Z ≤ 9 are firstly investigated.
