Abstract

This paper presents the advances and results of a research project conducted by the Mexican Centre of Innovation in Intelligent Electrical Networks and Micro-networks (CEMIE-Redes) funded by the 2138 Sectorial Fund CONACYT-SENER-Sustainable Energy. The main objective is to know the technical power losses associated with the different areas, which integrate low voltage electric networks in Mexico. Since there are about 1.5 million low-voltage networks in Mexico, a census is not feasible, therefore a sampling approach is followed. The statistical algorithms for the selection of a sample were developed and implemented in a computer system. Measurement equipment will be installed in the sampled networks for collecting data, which will be used to estimate nationwide the total technical loss and, via mathematical models, to calculate the technical losses in each low voltage network of the national energy distribution system.
