Abstract

The transition to the construction of the armored fleet in the second half of the 19th century required elaboration of naval guns and projectiles of a new type. The most important quality of the latter was their increased strength, which gave them the ability to penetrate warship's armour. Obukhovskii Steel Works was the first in Russia to start manufacturing steel armor-piercing projectiles. Constantly developing and improving projectile technologies, he remained one of the leaders in this field of production at the beginning of the 20th century.
