Abstract

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is not only a limited to airways and lung disease,but a systemic,chronic inflammatory disease mediated by a variety of risk factors and biological mechanism at the same time.Systemic effects especially skeletal muscle dysfunction (SMD) in patients with COPD,which seriously impact the patients′ quality of life and prognosis.SMD may be related with systemic inflammation,oxidative stress,skeletal muscle protein synthesis and degradation imbalance,mechanical ventilation,insulin-like growth factor I and myostatin,in recent years found that myostatin is involed with SMD,but it is still not clear,this mechanism may provide new prevention strategies for patients with COPD.
