Abstract

Reading is the foundation for increasing knowledge. Even the level of reading is directly proportional to the progress of a nation. It becomes a problem when you see that reading interest in Indonesia is very low. This research is to see how the strategy for developing literacy in the Miftahul Ulum Depok Integrated Islamic Elementary School (SDIT) in increasing students' interest in reading. This research is a type of qualitative field research, using an inductive description method. In collecting data, researchers used observation, documentation, and interview techniques. The results of the research conducted revealed several strategies to increase students' interest in reading: (1) Read 15 minutes before teaching and learning; (2) The challenge of reading poetry and telling stories; (3) Reading books in the library by giving rewards; (4) West Java Leader's Reader Challenge (WJLRC); (5) Silent reading (readhaton). From some of these strategies, SDIT Miftahul Ulum Depok was able to invite students to have a reading habit, build student confidence, and students have good competitiveness.
