Abstract
Multilayer mirrors have been finding ever increasing application in soft x-ray spectroscopy. Studies of the properties of such mirrors have shown their high performance and spectral selectivity. However, rigid requirements on surface flatness prevent the fabrication of focusing elements with a small value of the focal spot. This difficulty can be met by using profiled multilayer mirrors. The results of the investigation of the focusing properties of x-ray mirrors profiled as zone plates with a linear focal spot are presented. A 1:10 demagnification of the source slit image has been achieved using characteristic FeKα radiation. The application of this kind of optics to soft x-ray spectroscopy is discussed.
