Abstract

SynopsisProfile of energy-loss spectrum in collisions of low velocity ions with heteronuclear diatomic molecules is theoretically investigated. With changing mass asymmetry in a target diatomic molecule, energy-loss spectrum is calculated with the classical trajectory calculation. Rotational excitation plays an essential role for energy-loss. The shape of the spectrum is found to show a drastic variation with mass asymmetry.
