Abstract

The 21st century requires individuals to have both hard skills and soft skills. One of the essential thinking skills, along with the times is critical thinking skills. Critical thinking skills are needed to improve the quality the human resources for prospective educators in Indonesia who will become agents of change. Thus, critical thinking skills are skills that must be possessed by students, including pre-service biology teacher. The aims of this study was to determine the profile of the critical thinking skills of Pre-service biology teacher. This research uses quantitative approach. The data obtained in the form of numbers from the scores of student answers on each item. The research subjects were 55 students who had taken the Biology Learning Strategy course or similar courses from six universities. The data instrument uses six test items in the Biology Learning Strategy material by adopting indicators from Facione with four rating scales. The research data were analyzed using the Rasch model. The results of this preliminary study got login person -2.5 logit which means below logit items (0.0 logit). This shows that the average ability of students is still below the average level of preference for standard questions critical thinking, so further research is needed to empower students' critical thinking skills.
