Abstract

The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of different doses of nitrogen on the productivity of grass digitaria (Digitaria sp.) The experiment was conducted from April to July 2012 at the Experimental Station of Embrapa Meio-Norte, located in the city of Parnaíba, Piauí.The experimental design was completely randomized with four treatments and five replications consisting of nitrogen levels (T1 – 200; T2 – 400; T3 – 600 and T4 - 800 kg N ha-1 year-1). Three cuts at intervals of 28 days each were realized. The variables evaluated were: grass plant height, production and dry matter content, penetration and absorption of light, the leaf blade/stem and dead material and efficiency of nitrogen use. Nitrogen fertilization promoted a decrease in dry matter, nitrogen use efficiency, light penetration and leaf/stem + sheath, and influenced positively in plant height, dry matter production and light interception in grass digitaria depending on the doses N applied.
