Abstract
Four wide-field X-ray monitor instruments, “WATCH”, were launched in December 1989 on board the Soviet scientific satellite GRANAT. The results from the first months of operation of this experiment include the detection and localization of several X-ray transients and gamma ray bursts, time variability studies of some of the brighter, persistent X-ray sources and observations of the X-ray emissions from the Sun during a very active phase in the solar cycle.
