Abstract

The North Shore University Hospital Cyclotron/PET Facility houses a Scanditronix MC17F cyclotron and a SuperPETT 3000 camera. The cyclotron produces extracted beams of 17.5 MeV protons or 8.5 MeV deuterons up to 80 μA. It is equipped with a 6.5 M beam line with a three port switching magnet (+30°, 0°, 30°). The 0° port supports target chambers for the production of 11C, 13N, 15O, and 18F. 18F is produced by both the 18O(p, n) 18F and the 20Ne(d, α) 18F reactions, for fluoride ion and anhydrous F 2, respectively. Remotely operated semiautomatic processing systems are used for the production of 11C-labeling agents and permanent gases labeled with 15O. The two experimental beams lines (+30°, −30°) are used for target development, notably the production of 55Co by bombardment of a highly enriched 54Fe target with deuterons.
