Abstract

THREE kinds of fast drift radio bursts from the Sun, with frequency changes corresponding to outward velocities of 105 km/sec, are observed: type III bursts, produced by even quite small solar flares; “herringbone structure”, produced by type II slow drift bursts; and “inverted U bursts”, in which a fast drift burst starts outward and turns back down.
