Abstract
In the past 10 years ECN has been developing and manufacturing ceramic components for flat-plate solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) reactors, in close collaboration with industrial stack and system developers. The major activities were concentrated on the development of cost-effective manufacturing technology, with the aim of starting commercial activity for pre-pilot manufacturing of SOFC and other planar electro-ceramics. On 1 September 1999 a new company was launched, “InDEC Pilot Production BV”, which is a subsidiary of ECN. InDEC carries out quality controlled, pre-pilot manufacturing of electro-ceramics with the aim of preparing for larger-scale component manufacturing, involving semi-automation and rationalisation of the manufacturing technology in conjunction with industrial partners. The company's current capacity is equivalent to a volume of 15,000–25,000 electroceramic components per year.
