Abstract
The objective was to determine the main characteristics of the undergraduate thesis advisors and its scientific production in Psychology. The methodology involves a descriptive-bibliometric study, where the analyzed population consisted of 37 advisory professors from 149 undergraduate theses approved in the period 2014 - 2017 in a private university in Peru, which were located in the digital repository of this institution. The main results indicate that there was a greater participation of women advisers (70.3%), more women advisors than men advisors (29.7%). In addition, 64.9% evidenced having only professional title, 21.6% had master’s degree and only 13.5% doctor’s degree, likewise, only 27% of the professors had scientific publications, while 73% had not published at any time in their lives. Finally, we discovered a scientific production of 37 articles (33 originals, 2 letters to the editor and 2 editorials) corresponding to only 10 advisory professors, who made published their works in national and international journals. It is concluded that there is a low proportion of advisors with the necessary academic degree to advise degree work according to the Peruvian university law, likewise, a low scientific production of them that corroborates the findings recorded in Peruvian scientific literature, which indicates that currently, the generation of new knowledge in the country is facing serious limitations.
