Abstract

An integrated programmable cellular logic processor that is a combination of prisms and polarization-optical interconnection units, is proposed and demonstrated. Based on bidirectional projection coding strategy and self-routing concept, any fuzzy logic outputs can be directly used as the inputs of the following morphological operations without thresholding and rearranging. Utilizing the dual-rail coding property of PROM and birefringence characteristic in calcite crystal, various image tasks which were formulated by cascaded fuzzy logic combinations of morphological operations in mathematics, can be simply accomplished by customizing the manifestation form of one input pattern and rotation of a polarizer. It is compact in structure and stable and efficient for practical uses with high package density.
