Abstract

Vulcanization of “one-pack” organosilicon compositions occurring under the influence of atmospheric moisture is examined from the point of view of the theory of three dimensional polycondensation. The range of conditions for gel formation found experimentally are compared with the range calculated in accordance with the views of Carothers and Flory, worked out for systems containing non-equivalent concentrations of functional groups. Chemical models of the compounds formed in the system at the stage preceding vulcanization are proposed, as well as an outline of the vulcanization process that explains specific features of the behaviour of these compositions brought out in this work.
