Abstract

The underdeveloped is, to a large extent, due to the natural geographical conditions in this area, and same can be seen on the process of the modernization of the Asiatic civilization. A big difference in the land use in agriculture and manufacturing industry exsists between modernization of Asia and Europe. Upon completion of Thanh Hoa Delta colony, the Asiatic absolutism collapsed and the old agricultural system was succeeded by the new French system. “One rice cropping a year area” where one cropping was harvested in May or October taking the advantage of the natural geographical conditions in the Delta was gradually changed into “double cropping system” had prevailed remarkably in the “October cropping area” where canal network for irrigation was completed. As to home industry, “May cropping area” was not suitable to cultivate cotton or mulberry due to repeated floods. In the “October cropping area” however, mulberry was widely cultivated on the slopes of canal banks and silk textile production as home industry developed year by year by partly due to the small scale of silk textile import as well as the decline of the cotton cultivation. The under developed Southern part of the Delta, where mulberry cultivation was not prevailed, remained to be a typical colonial agriculture area under “double cropping a year” system. Thus the old Thanh Hoa Delta as selfsupplying agriculture area was developed into three different types of area “May crop area”, “double cropping and mulberry (silk) area” and “only doodle cropping area” In general the modernization of land use in Asia was much influe iced by complicated natural geographical conditions there.
