Abstract
In most cases, sustainability reporting is the only way for a steel company to communicate its sustainability strategy, the actions and programs implemented and the tangible results. Although some large companies have already published their sustainability results, the situation is very different for the majority of the steel makers, which still meet several problems to implement these tools. This paper attempts to fill this gap by proposing a process for obtaining a set of key sustainability indicators able to support proactive strategies in the steel industry. The approach allows tailoring the set of indicators to the specific characteristics of different local settings, taking into account the relevance of different sustainability issues in different contexts.
