Abstract

“The commission was chaired by Brigadier General Juan Martín Echenique and was made up of Colonels Enrique Varela, Carlos Abril, Celso Zuleta, Ernesto la Combe and Lieutenant Colonels Luís Regal, Moisés Cornejo, Manuel Salazar and René Chaumeton (artillery instructor of the French Military Mission) (Panizo, 1905). Officers with extensive experience and almost all of them veterans of the war with Chile, beginning the best and most complete process of purchasing artillery material that our Army carried out throughout its republican life”. This article present the most complete and documented historical detail of what we now know as a weapon selection process. The political vision to acquire new technology based on the requirements of the National Defense, the complete model of administrative procedures and detailed, precise, scientific and practical field test, brought together by the veteran artillerymen of the war with Chile, project their experience to the new generations. The first photo of the Peruvian field artillery cannon on fire help us to rescue the value and usefulness of our military history.
