Abstract
It is our great pleasure to welcome you to the 1st ACM Workshop on Adaptivity, Personalization and the Semantic Web -- APS'06. This year's workshop continues the tradition started by workshops such as the Authoring of Adaptive and Adaptable Hypermedia series, Adaptive and Personalized Semantic Web, Methods & Technologies for Personalized and Adaptive Web Interaction, and Adaptive Web-Based Education and Learning Styles, for being the premier forums for presentation of research results and experience reports on leading edge issues of adaptivity, personalization and the Semantic Web. The mission of the symposium is to share novel developments in these three separate areas of adaptivity, personalization and semantic web, whilst bringing together researchers from these separate corners, in order to benefit from synergetic effects of collaborative work. The call for papers attracted several submissions from Greece, Netherlands, UK, Germany, France and Czech Republic. The program committee accepted 6 papers that cover a variety of topics, including Adaptive Hypermedia on the Semantic Web, efficient generic semantic Authoring, User Models, Learner Profile Management for Collaborative Adaptive eLearning, Personalized Clustering in Data intensive Applications, and User behavior patterns. In addition, the program includes a panel on the issue of "Mutual Benefits between Semantic Web and Adaptive Hypermedia". We hope that these proceedings will serve as a valuable reference for personalization and semantic web researchers and developers alike.
