Abstract

Welcome to the 5th India Software Engineering Conference (ISEC 2012). This annual conference series was started by the Special Interest Group on Software Engineering of the Computer Society of India, and is the flagship conference in Software Engineering out of India. ISEC 2012 will be hosted jointly by SIGSE, CSI and ISOFT, the Indian arm of SIGSOFT operating under the aegis of ACM India. The first conference was held in Hyderabad in February 2008, the second conference was held in February 2009 in Pune, and the 3rd in 2010 in Mysore, and the 4th in Thiruvananthapuram, India. The response to ISEC has been tremendous both in terms of submission and participation. This year we received 107 papers from 221 authors. After a very careful review process we have accepted 9 papers in the full research category papers and 17 papers in the short paper category. This year we have three keynote speakers. We are proud to have Professor Nenad Medvidovic of University of Southern California, Prof. Lionel Briand of University of Oslo and Prof. Pankaj Jalote of IIIT Delhi, as the keynote speakers of ISEC 2012. All the speakers are well known in the world of Software Engineering and Information Technology. The ISEC series began a tradition of inviting the best papers of International Conference on Software Engineering and Foundations of Software Engineering conferences for presentation in special sessions at ISEC. This event is supported by SIGSOFT of ACM. This year we have four papers from these conferences, each of which has won the SIGSOFT Distinguished Paper award, and will be presented at ISEC 2012. The presence of these sessions will help ensure that top work in the field of software engineering is presented to a large community of Indian researchers who may not have been able to participate in ICSE and FSE.
