Abstract

Welcome to Graphite 2004: The 2nd International Conference on Computer Graphics and Interactive Techniques in Australasia and Southeast Asia.Following the previous successful Graphite conference in Melbourne in February 2003, we are very pleased to be here at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. Graphite is an ongoing collaborative effort between ANZGRAPH (the Australian and New Zealand Association for Computer Graphics) and SEAGRAPH (the South East Asian association for Computer Graphics). Graphite 2004 is sponsored by ACM SIGGRAPH, in co-operation with Eurographics and supported by Nanyang Technological University, the School of Computing at the National University of Singapore, Lasalle-Sia College of the Arts, Defence Science & Technology Agency, Singapore Tourism Board, Temasek Labs @ NTU, and Nanyang Polytechnic. We are very grateful to all these organisations for their support for this conference! Furthermore, Graphite is co-located with two other events: VRCAI 2004, the ACM SIGGRAPH International Conference on Virtual Reality Continuum and its Application in Industry and COMGRAPH 2004, the 5th Asia-Pacific Digital Art & Computer Animation Competition. All in all it 's an exciting mixture of people that have got together in Singapore! We received 65 high quality papers from 17 different countries. From these the International Programme Committee had the difficult task of selecting the 39 papers for presentation at the conference. Each of the themes of Interactive Techniques, Visualisation, Modeling, Virtual and Augmented Reality Rendering, Real Time Graphics, 3d Computer Animation, Web Graphics and Computer Art are strongly represented. In addition to research papers, there are some excellent practice and experience papers as well.
