Proceedings of the 17th symposium on Integrated circuits and system design

Abstract

On behalf of the Organizing and Program Committees, the General and Program Chairs warmly welcome all the participants of SBCCI2004, the 17th edition of the Symposium on Integrated Circuits and Systems Design, this year being hosted in Porto de Galinhas Beach, Pernambuco, Brazil.During the years, SBCCI has been steadily growing as an important forum for the discussion of several important aspects of systems and circuits design, such as analog, mixed, and digital design, dedicated and reconfigurable architectures, embedded systems, verification and test methodologies, CAD tools, and design methods.This year the Program Committee has gone through a major effort, thanks to the record submission of 148 papers. Of these, only one third has been selected for the final program. Submissions came from all over the world, including France, Italy, Germany, Portugal, Spain, United States, Greece, Finland, Switzerland, Cuba, and South American countries. We are pleased to say that the final program shows a clear international participation, with papers from 9 different countries.Moreover, the technical program is complemented by several highlights: 2 keynote speakers, 3 invited talks, 4 tutorials, 2 panels, and business sessions with presentations from industry. The keynote speakers will present the state of the art in IC technology and design, as well as the challenges of system design in avionics. The tutorials and invited talks will cover hot topic areas, including low-power architectures, CAD for FPGA's, statistical analysis, and test and verification. SBCCI has also introduced in the last years new activities in order to promote the students' participation in the symposium. This year, besides the Student Forum, we are co-organizing with Xilinx Inc., for the first time, a contest on system design for Brazilian students. The submitted designs must be prototyped in FPGA's, and Xilinx will award a prize to the best three design submissions.Besides a solid technical program, social activities are also being organized - beach walking in the morning, a typical dinner, and sightseeing to Porto de Galinhas' natural pools.
