Abstract

The purpose of the article is to describe the problems of the particles’ status in Bulgarian and Russian Linguistics. The subjects of this study are particle classes in Bulgarian and Russian languages, difficulties in classification of particles. Methods of semantic, grammatical, comparative analysis, are used. The findings of the research are pointing out the similarities and differences in particle classification in Bulgarian and Russian. Factors complicating defining of classes of particles are described. The main ones being the diversity of words included in that part of speech. There are the factors resulting from the differences in the grammatical systems of both languages. On the other hand there are no clear criteria for defining classes of particles. Homonymy and semantics of particles are a main factor as well. The practical value of the research is that the results can be used in further studies of particles in Russian and Bulgarian, as well as studies of particles in other languages.
