Abstract

AbstractThe CNBr used to activate carriers for covalent binding of biologically active substances must not contain free cyanide ions. Several carrier materials, such as poly‐2‐hydroxy‐ethyl methacrylate (Spheron) or cellulose, adsorb cyanide ions that cannot be removed by thorough washing. But when these carriers are incubated with substances or ions showing high affinity for cyanide ions, such as methemoglobin or Fe2+, then as a result of complexing, desorption from the carrier and inhibition of the fixed or incubated substances are effected.
