Abstract

The copolymerization of unsaturated 1,3-dioxane derivatives and maleic anhydride in the presence of α, α azobisisobutyronitrile was investigated and alternating copolymers have been obtained. It has been shown that unsaturated 1,3-dioxane derivatives form a charge-transfer complex with maleic anhydride. The equilibrium constants of the charge-transfer complexes were determined by NMR spectroscopy. The mechanism of the polymerization was discussed.
