Abstract

The particular problems arising when using composite models in dissimilar materials for frozen-stress work are discussed. Properties of birefringent materials suitable for simulating composite structures of steel, cast iron and aluminium are given. The photoelastic properties of a new bakelite epoxide resin have been investigated; it was found to have a figure of merit of 2000.
