Abstract

Once launched, due to its mobility, convenience, interactivity, instantaneity and openness, WeChat has quickly become one of the current state-of-the-art mobile text and voice messaging communication services in China. It has been proved that the combination of WeChat and higher education is an inevitable choice of the times and is adapt to the developmental direction of higher education. Based on the exploration of some features of the WeChat, the purpose of this paper is to address some reasons why WeChat can be utilized to support mobile learning, personalized learning, collaborative learning, micro-learning, autonomous learning, educational management & Service, and professional development for faculty, etc., beyond the traditional classroom teaching in Colleges and universities in China. At last, by examining some limitations of this app as an educational tool, the paper also offers some countermeasures of its applications in the field of higher education in China.
