Abstract

Radio spectroscopy in the four redshifted 18cm OH lines allows a probe of changes in three fundamental constants, the fine structure constant α, the proton g-factor g p and the electron-proton mass ratio μ ≡ m e /m p . After summarizing the technique, we describe WSRT observations of the conjugate satellite OH lines towards PKS 1413+135, which find weak evidence in support of evolution in the constants, over a lookback time of ∼ 2.7 Gyrs.
