Abstract

In a short period, coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), has devasted the world and has been responsible for more than one million deaths to date.1 Although the most commonly reported severe symptoms include hypoxemia and respiratory distress, COVID-19 also is associated with involvement of other organ systems. Many aspects of the disease remain unknown; however, what has been well-established is that patients with underlying cardiovascular disease (CVD) are at an increased risk of death.
