Abstract

Abstract This presentation will focus on the concept of good governance for prison health, touching upon concepts such as equivalence of care, independent healthcare, standards of care and human rights approaches to healthcare in detained settings. Effective governance and policymaking are supported and fostered by timely and accurate information, however this is largely lacking in European prison systems. Although some steps ahead have been made with the launch of the Health in Prisons European Database (HIPED) in 2016, strengthening health information systems in prison settings is a key priority.
