Abstract

The article discusses the relationship between natural and climatic conditions and migrations of nomadic peoples (Nogais, Kalmyks and Turkmens) in the steppe regions of the North Caucasus in the 15th - 18th centuries, as well as the influence of these conditions on the organization of the system of governance of nomadic peoples in the region. The study shows that the features of the natural landscape and climate strongly influenced the specifics of the life of nomadic societies, forcing them to develop special tools for adaptation and management in the Pre-Caucasus. The involvement of nomadic peoples in the sphere of influence of Russia and their subsequent entry into the Russian state was an important act to ensure order and stability on the southern borders of the empire.
