Abstract

The principles of quality control in analysis are summarised. The definition of numerical accuracy targets is developed from the need to produce analytical results of accuracy suited to their purpose. Within-laboratory quality control, based on the use of control charting techniques in conjunction with routine control analyses, is discussed. These techniques are supplemented by between-laboratory quality assessment using circulated test materials.
