Abstract

The purpose of this presentation is to expand the analysis of aflatoxin B-1 beyond the realm of its two present means High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) and Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC). Both these analytical methods rely on aflatoxin’s ultra violet absorbance and fluoresence characteristics for detection. HPLC methods are particularly sensitive and extraction methodologies are well worked out. The purpose of expanding the analysis to gas chromatography — mass spectrometry (GC-MS) is primarily to aid in confirmation of identity but the design of the proposed system should be suitable for quantification as well.
