Abstract
Abstract Primary adenoid cystic carcinoma (PACC) of the mandible is an extremely rare malignant tumor of the minor salivary gland which may show similar clinical features with many odontogenic or nonodontogenic tumor. It comprises <0.4% of all salivary gland carcinomas. We report a case of a 60-year-old male patient with an 11-month history of mandibular swelling. Thorough history taking and clinical examination revealead osteosarcoma and differentials of odontogenic tumors. There was no thought of salivary gland neoplasm. An incisional biopsy was performed, which revealed a cribriform disposition of basaloid cells with angulated hyperchromatic nuclei and mucoid cystic spaces consistently keeping with ACC of the mandible. The patient had a mandibulectomy and was later referred to the oncology unit for further evaluation and no recurrence after a 1-year follow-up period. This report highlights an unusual presentation in terms of location of ACC in the mandible.
