Abstract
Language is ideology; one's ideology, in other words, discloses itself in his or her use of language. The mode of language differs according to different individuals or communities, and so does ideology. To put it further, the difference in the mode of language is in truth decided by ideology. It can be said that the line between male and female language is that between male and female ideology. This essay, based on the presumption of language as ideology, is made to unveil the ideology hidden in the language of male characters and of female characters in Mamet's ”Sexual Perversity in Chicago”: how language molded by their perverse ideology works in the (mis)communication between male characters, between female characters, and between male and female characters.
